Speaker Bio
A lifelong waterman, Lt. Nathan Alldredge was an NCAA Champion water polo player at Stanford (BA) before getting a MA from UC Berkeley. He and his wife then moved to Germany, where he played water polo while she completed graduate school. Missing California, they moved back to Santa Barbara to start a family. Watching the Harbor Patrol boats in action one afternoon, Alldredge knew that he has found his calling. Alldredge gained experience working on the D/V Conception and with the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol as a deckhand, eventually getting hired as an officer. A microburst hit the waterfront on Lt. Alldredge’s second week on the job, and for his lifesaving actions on the boat and in the water that day he was named California Boating Safety Officer of the Year in 2018 and given the Distinguished Service Award from the California Association of Harbor Masters and Port Captains. Alldredge is a licensed USCG captain, EMT, USLA certified lifeguard, and a member of the city Santa Barbara’s water rescue team. Alldredge has taken the Marine Law Enforcement Center’s Basic Maritime Officer’s course as is trained in Rescue Boat Operations, Marine Firefighting, Vessel Accident Investigation, and Boating Under the Influence. Before being promoted to Harbor Patrol Supervisor, he served as Harbor Patrol’s bargaining unit representative as the SEIU local 620 steward and launched the department’s peer support program. Lt. Alldredge continued his educational work in Harbor Administration from the University of Alaska, Southeast, and is also a member of Santa Barbara County’s critical incident response team.
