Captain Troy Heidemann grew up sailing upon the ocean in Southern California between Catalina Island and Newport Beach and around the Hawaiian Island of Maui. He was raised by his parents to be a true waterman appreciating the environment while sailing, surfing and scuba diving. After High School he went on to Orange Coast College, Costa Mesa, CA and qualified to be on the Sailing Team. This is where he got his sea time to acquire a 200 Ton Sailing Endorsed United States Merchant Marine Officers License. At Orange Coast College he earned his Associates of Arts Degree and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Organizational Business Management from Vanguard University, Costa Mesa, CA.
Captain Troy was the Sailing Administrator for the prestigious Balboa Yacht Club, known for its world class yachting events. He was instrumental working with Board of Directors in implementing, directing, and promoting 25 events a year, ranging from local, national, and international events with a six-figure budget. While working with the Race Council, Captain Troy participated in acquiring funding for a new class of boat for their Governor’s Cup Regatta and raising that event to International Match Racing Status. During this time at BYC his son was born prematurely, so he worked with the Cinderella Guild at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County to re-institute the CHOC Charity Regatta and acquired LEXUS as the Title Sponsor which still raises over 100k a year.
Captain Troy also has a background in yacht management and was a delivery Captain from Mexico to Alaska for Sea Ray, Bayliner and Heritage Yacht Sales in Newport Beach, CA. Captain Troy with his boat partner, Captain Steve Porter, provided a free Burial at Sea service to Veterans for 10 years.
Captain Troy went on to become an Editor and Market Data Analyst for the National Automotive Dealers Association’s Marine Division. He provided valuations both in publications and online working with 360 National Marine Dealer Advisory Board Members. Captain Troy worked effectively with government agencies, insurance companies and top corporate officials to provide the most market reflective valuations in the Marine Industry. He attained a track record of success in obtaining market share in the banking and financial industries. Captain Troy has experience in market analysis researching national market trends.
Captain Troy took on a different role as the VP of Business Development for the environmental company WES TECH, Inc. His primary duties were designing, preparing, and editing business plans, executive summaries, correspondence and reports of revenue and expenditures analysis and projections. Captain Troy also researched environmental companies with emerging waste management technologies to look for partnering opportunities. Captain Troy provided the presentations of WES TECH’s technologies to local, state, and international government officials and investors. He acquired approval from a United Nations Foundation to build their plants in the Philippines and won an international competition of over 60 other technologies to build a WES TECH plant in Egypt.
Captain Troy wanted to spend more time with his family, so he found an opportunity closer to home at the place he grew up at in Newport Harbor, the world-renowned Balboa Bay Club as their Dockmaster. After two years he was promoted Director of Marina Operations. At the Balboa Bay Club, Captain Troy has made their Marina safer with dredging, upgraded electrical power, safety ladders and life rings. He has increased profits by keeping the marina full and created a marina boating community with Harbor 20 Regattas, Duffy Scavenger Hunts, USCG Auxiliary boating classes and social mixers. Captain Troy also attained a “Clean Marina” Certification and has one of only two oil recycling stations in all of Newport Harbor.
On June 6th, 2023, after four years of studying Marina Management Techniques and Best Management Practices he was awarded the 515th Certified Marina Manager by the Association of Marina Industries recognized by marinas around the world. He is now currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Marina Recreation Association. The Marine Recreation Association represents marinas, boatyards, and allied businesses throughout the Western U.S. and around the world. They fight for fair, practical, eco-friendly regulations in California.
Captain Troy’s volunteer background includes event planning at the American Legion Post 291 in Newport Beach, CA for the last 25 years. He and his family raise money for the Veterans and their families through several events per year. He was raised in an environment of fundraising and charity events working with Opera Pacific and the OC Performing Arts Guilds’.
When Captain Troy relaxes, he enjoys spending time with his family attending church, boating, golfing, and playing percussion with the Don Ross Band and The Hodaddies bands for over 35 years at local venues throughout Southern California.
