Increasing insurance requirements from carriers and marinas, combined with the rising costs of boat ownership, can make it challenging for boat owners to understand what is required to get accepted into a marina and keep their boats in compliance. Too often, marinas and boatyards can send conflicting messages to boat owners rather than working together to serve the same customer. The goal is to reduce the risk of neglected or poorly maintained boats in the marina while helping keep boaters active on the water.
This session will follow the boater’s journey from the marina application and approval process through the haul-out, survey, and boatyard repair process. Panelists will discuss how to interpret survey and inspection reports, understand marina application and approval requirements, identify repairs and preventative maintenance needs, and effectively communicate those requirements between the boater, marina, and boatyard.
The discussion will also address the growing number of salvage boats, including the logistical and cost challenges they create for both marinas and boatyards. Through real-world examples and practical discussion, attendees will gain a better understanding of how marinas and boatyards can work together to make the process more transparent, coordinated, and efficient—ultimately creating a better experience for the boater, marina operator, and boatyard.
